Born from the shared vision of three friends yearning to follow a creative, liberated path, Earth Age is a female-led business with a unique story at its core.
Our strategy diverges from the traditional business mindset of rapid growth and mindless production. We embrace a gentle, intentional, and conscious approach to creation, allowing our growth to unfold organically. This mindful approach has led to a thriving workspace that has surpassed our wildest expectations.
We trust in our process, in the conscious decisions we choose to grow our business, and in our feminine intuition which guides us with intention, fierce determination, and compassion.
SUSTAINABILITY STANCE
Sustainability is not a destination we reach, but a path we continuously walk, guided by our creativity and commitment to a better world. It's a journey of constant learning, growth, and adaptation—an endless dance with the rhythm of nature.
We weave sustainability into the very fabric of our business, from supply chain to production to our everyday practices. Our waste is woven back into our work. Recycling practices are maintained daily. We create with natural fibres that have been gently nurtured through their journey from Earth to Earth Age.
The cotton we use to crochet sprouts from rich South African soil. Nurtured by farmers, spinners, and dyers who hold the environment in the highest regard, this cotton embodies a commitment to sustainable practices. While not certified organic, it is cultivated and processed with the same principles in mind, utilizing renewable energy sources, recycled and borehole water, and Oeko-Tex-certified non-toxic dyes to minimize environmental impact.
Due to current restrictions on hemp cultivation in South Africa, we source our hand-twisted hemp from China. However, we remain hopeful for future change, as hemp is a remarkable renewable resource. It requires minimal water and land for rapid growth, thrives without chemical intervention, and even surpasses trees in carbon dioxide absorption.
COMMUNITY CARE
We create more than just fashion accessories; we weave together stories and connect generations. Each piece carries the legacy of the women who crochet for us, the wisdom of their mothers and grandmothers who passed down this skill, and the journeys of those who bead, sew, and stitch every detail. Our creations are a tapestry of lives, experiences, and shared artistry.
Our studio is a vibrant hub of creativity, filled with a diverse collective of women who collaborate and inspire each other. We are now a growing team of more than 20 women, 10 of whom have joined in the last year. Whether it's through the nimble fingers of our crocheters and sewers or the efficiency of our order packers, every contribution plays a vital role in our shared success.
We believe women in South Africa deserve a positive, safe, and creative workspace where their skills and voices are valued. At Earth Age, we strive to provide that environment, empowering women to generate income and build sustainable livelihoods.
